The phenomenon of Jurassic World
Jurassic Park began in 1990. It was a science fiction novel by Michael Crichton. Even before its premiere, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment bought the rights to its film adaptation, which saw the light of day in 1993 under the director Steven Spielberg.

The first film in the series met with great interest from viewers and critics, sparking discussions about dinosaurs around the world. It was the unusual subject matter and its great, especially for those times, graphic design that made the film loved by millions. After its premiere the interest in paleontology grew significantly. Over the years, after the publication of the next part of the novel, new productions about dinosaurs have also been released, still gathering new generations of viewers.

Jurassic Park – the beginning of the classic series
The first film in the series debuted in 1993. The production was based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. The director of the picture was Steven Spielberg, and Michael Crichton and David Koepp were responsible for the script. The cast of the three-Oscar-winning film includes: Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Richard Attenborough, Jeff Goldblum and Samuel L. Jackson.
One of the main characters of the production is John Hammond – a rich man who created Jurassic Park on his private island. In collaboration with scientists, he managed to recreate the dinosaurs that died out years ago. They did this by extracting dinosaur blood from mosquitos preserved in amber. The millionaire wanted his park to be visited by people from all over the world – for this purpose, the facility had to undergo security checks by other scientists. When they arrived on the island, it turned out that the place was not as safe as expected. The first part of the series turned out to be a huge box office success, breaking popularity records both in the US and around the world. The film grossed hundreds of millions of dollars.
Lost World: Jurassic Park – Not the End with Dinosaurs
The next installment in the series, Lost World: Jurassic Park, debuted in cinemas in 1997. This time, Steven Spielberg made a film based on the themes of Michael Crichton’s second novel about Jurassic Park from 1995. The screenplay is by David Koepp. The action of the production takes place a few years after the events of the first.
After the closure of Jurassic Park, where the tragic events took place, it turns out that the dinosaurs have not disappeared at all. The animals live on a nearby island and reproduce all the time. Both John Hammond and Dr. Ian Malcolm send their researchers to the island. Among them is Malcolm’s partner Sarah (Julianne Moore). Lost World broke several sales records, especially in the first days of the premiere, but the enthusiasm of viewers declined quite quickly. The production garnered mixed reviews, not achieving as much success as its predecessor.
Jurassic Park 3 – The new director in the series
Jurassic Park 3 made its debut in 2001. This time the production director was Joe Johnston, and the script was written by Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor. Steven Spielberg took over as executive producer. The third edition Jurassic Park, unlike the previous ones, was not based on Michael Crichton’s book, although it was based on selected scenes from the dinosaur novel or the author’s ideas.
The action of this part also takes place on the island where original Jurassic Park was located. A young boy, Erik, goes missing and his divorced parents join forces to find their son. For this they hire a search team led by a paleontologist – Dr. Alan Grant. The man has no idea what threats and dangers await him on the island. The film featured, among others: Sam Neill, Trevor Morgan, Téa Leoni, William H. Macy and Alessandro Nivola. While Jurassic Park 3 earned quite a lot, it has become the series’ least profitable title. Most of the reviews weren’t very favorable.

Jurassic World – the first part of the new edition of the park
The first part of the completely new edition of the story about Jurassic Park had its premiere in 2015. The director was Colin Trevorrowand and Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Derek Connolly assisted him in creating the script. The film featured, among others: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Omar Sy, Ty Simpkins, Irrfan Khan and Nick Robinson.
The action of the production took viewers over twenty years into the future in relation to the first part of Jurassic Park. The facility is operational again, enjoying great popularity among tourists. To keep visitors interested, scientists are developing a completely new dinosaur. It is an amalgamation of several other reptiles, including the tyrannosaur. The animal turns out to be huge and much more dangerous than anyone imagined. That’s why the problems start again. Jurassic World broke popularity records, turned out to be a massive box-office hit and earned the most of all the series’ movies. This is one of the most profitable films in the history of cinema. No wonder that the next part of the Jurassic adventures began quickly.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – Volcanic Threat
Sequel to Jurassic World debuted in 2018. It is directed by JA Bayona and written by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow. Steven Spielberg became executive producer of the movie. Some actors from the first Jurassic Park from 1993 (BD Wong, Jeff Goldblum) reappeared in the film. In addition to them, the cast included, among others Chris Pratt, Rafe Spall, Toby Jones and Daniella Pineda.
The action of the film takes place a few years after the events of Jurassic World. After the fall of the park, dinosaurs live freely on the island. Unfortunately there is a volcano eruption. The main characters, Owen and Claire, decide to save the endangered animals. Owen is very keen on finding Blue, the dinosaur he was once particularly associated with. The film received mixed reviews, however it achieved considerable financial success.
Jurassic World Dominion
Jurassic World: Dominion is a production that hit theaters in June 2022. Directing this entry to the series is the creator of the first part of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow. Trevorrow, Derek Connolly and Emily Carmichael worked on the script. Steven Spielberg once again became one of the producers of the title.
In addition to the actors returning from previous parts, new faces will also appear on the screen – Dichen Lachman, Campbell Scott, Mamoudou Athie, DeWanda Wise and Scott Haze. The action took place shortly after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and showed how dinosaurs coped in the wild.
Jurassic World Chalk Camp from Netflix – Jurassic Park for children
In 2020, Jurassic World: Chalk Camp debuted on Netflix. The series, again produced by Steven Spielberg, consists of four seasons. It tells about a group of teenagers who go to a camp on the island of Isla Nublar. When the dinosaurs leave the park, the kids must fight to survive. The creator of the series is Zack Stentz, and the voices of the characters were lent by, among others: Paul-Mikél Williams, Raini Rodriguez, Jenna Ortega and Stephanie Beatriz.
The biggest and most famous productions in the world about dinosaurs are definitely Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. The series, consisting of two stages, Park and World, is a work that can be safely called a classic.
